Making History

On Monday evening, Brett Favre was making history yet again.

After spending 16 years as the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, Favre was given the chance to compete against them- as a Minnesota Viking. It was an intense game with both team offenses playing with excellence. Favre had 3 touchdown passes and threw 271 yards and wasn't sacked once. In the end, Favre and the Vikings were trimumphant beating the Packers 30-23. This win caused Brett Favre to be the only quarterback in history to beat all 32 NFL teams.

Yes, Brett Favre has now "retired" and come out of "retirement twice in the past 2 years. Yes, he's going to be 40 this Saturday (ironically my birthday as well!). Yes, he's changed teams each year the past 2 years. However, I'm convinced after last night's game and the Vikings 4-0 record thus far that Brett Favre is far from being retired from playing football.

A Cure for Swine Flu

The H1n1 virus, more commonly known as "Swine Flu" vaccination is going to be available to the public this week, reports MSNBC. The first batch of shipments will be incredibly small and mostly available to health care workers in order to keep them in the best of health. According to MSNBC, patients should simply be patient and wait for the vaccine to become more prominent, which will hopefully be by the end of this month. The vaccine will be readily available eventually, it is just this beginng phase which is the most trying to patients and health care workers alike. Thankfully, H1N1 is no where near as deadly or even unbearable as it was a few short months ago when the virus first became known. Health care physicians are working steadily to create an easier and faster way to vaccinate those infected with the horrific swine flu.

Celebrity Status

Pittsburgh Steelers 2-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger has allegedly been connected to two separate, yet very similar, lawsuits. The most recent, taking place in 2008, states "a former restaurant worker claims he was fired because he had demanded to see identification for a young-looking woman at Ben Roethlisberger's table where the NFL quarterback and his friends were drinking." Apparently doing your job and asking to see id of questionable alcohol consumers is uncalled for and worthy of firing.

I'm a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Big Ben especially. So it came as a surprise to me to find this article and to see the celebrity status Roethlisberger was being put up to. We all know he's a superstar, but to fire someone that made Big Ben's lady friend upset seems a bit much to me. Fox News reported the owner of the restaurant was a big fan and friend of Roethlisberger and told his employees to go out of their way to apease the quarterback.

A little much, don't you think?

We all remember Kanye West's little "meltdown" at the MTV Video Music Awards. If you didn't see it, check it out. It's pretty sad.

Now, a few weeks later, his tour entitled "Fame Kills" has been cancelled. Ironic coincidence? I think not. West explains the reasoning for canceling his tour as him needing to take time off and actually grieve for the sudden death of his mother which took place in 2007. It seems as if he's making excuses, but you can't really argue with him saying he never took time to grieve and is now paying for it years later. His sudden outburst at Taylor Swift shows West obviously has some issues he needs to work out, so maybe taking a break is a wise choice.

Priorities

President Obama and the First Lady traveled to Denmark today in hopes of persuading the Olympics Committee to have the summer Olympics held in Chicago in 2016. While First Lady Michelle Obama's trip has been planned for quite some time, critics believe the President failed in making this one of his priorities while congress is currently in a critical debate over health care legislation.

While many are wondering what exactly President Obama is thinking, many understand he is simply using his power to help his hometown. Great usage of presidential power and time, right? Not quite. I think President Obama has a full plate as it is and should focus his priorities on things that matter today and in the near future. Not on where the Olympics will be held over 6 years from now. I am a huge advocate of the Olympics, especially in the United States, but I do think our President needs to prioritize.
